Reading Book Creator Books on a Macbook and More

I was so very excited to receive the newest update for the Book Creator app for iPad last night. This update offers extra support for ePub 3 which now makes it possible to read Book Creator multimedia books on a Macbook or even a Windows computer.

I eagerly tried it out and it works really well! I even tried it on my husband's Windows computer. Take a look!

A lot of my books that I have already made with Book Creator can already work using Chrome with the free Readium app.

Here's how you make it work ...

Download the Chrome browser here and then be sure to add the Readium app from the Chrome store. Get it from here.

Then you click on the + sign to add books from your computer hard drive. Here is a photo of the book  'Our Batak House' made in Sumatra during the Backpack Classroom project being read on a Windows computer. In case you're wondering ... yes all of the voice recordings work well.

Here is a screen shot from within the browser. I am so excited about this development. The new update for Book Creator offers even more support for this. Now you no longer need an iPad to read books that have been created on an iPad. This means that even more people can read the books that we create.
Perhaps even Android might get into this and make an app to support Chrome with Readium?

  1. How fantastic to learn about this. I had sent a message to the creators of Book Creator asking them how I could have my students read their books on a PC. I was sent to your blog and I really appreciate the information and can hardly wait to share with my teachers.

  2. Good morning, I am sorry to bother you after I told you how much I liked the idea in my previous comment but I find I am at a bit of a standstill as I am having problems figuring it out. I guess I am one of those people who needs step by step instructions. :)

    1. I have made a book in Book Creator.
    2. How do I get it from the app to Readium?

    Thanks

  4. Good evening from Denmark.

I have been looking for a solution like this for a while and I´m so thrilled to have found your blog!
I´m a teacher in special needs education and in our classes we have just 1 or 2 iPads, so I have been working on how to share what we make in BookCreator so our pupils and their parents can open and read it on their mac or Pc at home.
I just read one of my BookCreator publications in Crome on my pc and it wotks very well.
The only problem I have experienced is that my videofile has shifted from portrait to landscape mode.
Do you have an explanation for that?

    Thank you from
    Gitte.

  5. Dear Gitte,
Sorry for the delay in replying. If you use the latest update for Book Creator - this problem should not occur anymore. I have been testing the Beta version for this and it has been fixed and now released.

  6. Thanks for the tip - have installed Readium. Works well. Great when you can have cross platform access to artifacts.
